This 40 hour Missouri POST certified course was designed with budgetary constraints in mind. It is also designed to develop the student to instruct law enforcement personnel and is centered around the pistol, shotgun and rifle. Students are taught basic, as well as advanced skill with the three weapons. The course will cover basic marksmanship as well as shooting on the move and emphasizes weapon manipulation. Firearms Training Prerequisites The student should have a zeroed rifle, be able to load, unload, and reload their firearm in a SAFE and CONTROLLED manner while keeping safe control of the weapon’s muzzle. The student should be familiar with their weapon systems and equipment and possess the basic knowledge to be able to disassemble their firearm for cleaning, maintenance, and problem-solving. Students attending this course should already be proficient with the weapon system and posses the desire to learn new concepts and teaching techniques. Physical Requirements The student must possess the physical strength and stamina to repetitively manipulate and fire their weapon during prolonged drilling, in all weather conditions. The student must be able to get up and down from standing, kneeling, and prone positions, as well as move forward, backward, and laterally. A student’s level of physical fitness can be a direct reflection to how much or little they learn. Instructor level students need to posses excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to the role of being a student-learner as well as an instructor. Disruptive or non productive attitudes need to be left at home. Gear Requirements The student, regardless of duty position, needs to arrive with the proper gear in relation to the weapon system being instructed. For instance, road officers conducting carbine manipulation showing up with no way of holding magazines on their persons is unacceptable, and undermines the training being conducted. If there are any questions, please contact us, and we will give suggestions. This includes gear for inclement weather, a method of hydration, etc… Training Tempo Students attending this course should be proficient with their weapon system before attending. Our instructor staff will make all reasonable efforts to provide individual assistance to students who are in need of extra coaching. However, this is not an excuse for students to not know their weapon system. The less time spent on the fundamentals allows the student, and the entire class, to progress to the next level, given the short period of time available. Students need to keep an open mind and be willing to look at and analyze new techniques, tactics, and procedures. We believe in giving the student numerous techniques and tools for the student to have at his/her disposal, in order that they may apply them to their particular needs. Minimum Requirements for Course Completion Instructor level course students are evaluated in two parts, weapons qualification and also by the instructor’s personal evaluation of the student’s progress. Students must be able to pick up and apply the concepts and techniques being taught. Students must also be able to score a minimum 80% on each of the weapon qualification courses. Students who do not qualify initially with their weapon system will be given two additional chances to shoot the course. Additional qualification will be at the discretion of the lead instructor.
