| A ground defense course for police officers should not be designed to prepare an officer to plan to stay on the ground in a competitive mode with a subject. The objective of a law enforcement ground defense course should be to have the officer get to his feet or gain control of the subject quickly. The GRASP course emphasizes four primary tools, bent arm lock, straight arm lock, escapes and strangles to assist the officer in defending him/herself. The premise behind the philosophy for most of the teaching of the GRASP course is that the officer is at a disadvantage and cannot disengage. | |
